Former New Jersey elementary school aide charged with 61 child sex crimes
Shaun Stebbins, who previously worked as a teacher’s aide at Woodbine Elementary School, is accused of aggravated sexual assault and producing child sexual abuse material after investigators allegedly found student images and videos on his electronic devices, prosecutors said.
A former New Jersey elementary school aide who spent about four years working with pre-K students is facing 61 criminal charges, including aggravated sexual assault and manufacturing child sexual abuse material, following the discovery of numerous images and videos of students on his devices, authorities said.
Shaun M. Stebbins, 44, was employed at Woodbine Elementary School in Cape May County from February 2022 until his arrest in neighboring Atlantic County on March 29, according to the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Cape May County investigation began after authorities in Atlantic County and Somers Point alerted prosecutors in April to suspected offenses in the neighboring county. The information emerged during a separate sexual assault investigation involving Stebbins at his home.

Investigators reportedly found numerous photographs and videos of Woodbine Elementary students on Stebbins’ electronic devices. Prosecutors have not said how many children may be involved or specified when the material was created.
Court documents allege that Stebbins recorded and carried out sex acts involving children in a school bathroom and during nap time, ABC7 reported.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office announced the 61-count indictment against Stebbins on Oct. 30. The charges include 29 counts of manufacturing child pornography, five counts of aggravated sexual assault, 13 counts of sexual assault by sexual contact and 14 counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
The manufacturing and aggravated sexual assault counts are first-degree offenses. If convicted, Stebbins could face 10 to 20 years in prison for each charge under New Jersey law.
The other counts are second-degree offenses, which generally carry sentences ranging from five to 10 years behind bars.

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland said the investigation remains active.
“Children are among the most vulnerable members of our community, and we are responsible for protecting their safety and well-being. Anyone who harms a child will be held accountable through the justice system.”
Stebbins is being held at the Atlantic County Correctional Facility as he awaits further court proceedings.
