A single Powerball ticket sold in New Jersey matched all six numbers in Wednesday night’s drawing, securing an estimated $847 million jackpot, lottery officials said Thursday.
The winning numbers were 15, 34, 41, 53 and 56, along with the red Powerball number 21. The ticket also carried a 2x Power Play multiplier.
The jackpot winner may choose a one-time cash payment of $363.1 million or receive the full prize through an annuity distributed over 29 years.
No tickets matched the numbers needed to win the $2 million or $1 million Match 5 prizes.
According to Powerball officials, Wednesday’s jackpot ranked as the ninth-largest prize in the game’s history and the second-biggest jackpot of the year. The lottery later revised the estimate upward from $835 million, moving the prize from 10th place to ninth on the all-time list.
The previous Powerball jackpot winner emerged on August 12, when a player in Illinois claimed a $1.04 billion prize.

Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET. After Wednesday’s win, the jackpot will reset to $20 million for Saturday’s drawing.
The odds of winning Wednesday’s jackpot were about 1 in 292.2 million, making it one of the most difficult lottery prizes to claim, according to Powerball.
The jackpot run was also the first in which players in the United Kingdom participated from the outset of a multiday drawing cycle, following the expansion of Powerball ticket sales to the country in July.
It was also the first time a lottery outside the United States contributed to a Powerball jackpot, the lottery said.
