Wind Breaker, an unconventional action anime known for its street brawling and intense bike racing, has garnered a significant following since its adaptation began. With the conclusion of its exhilarating second season, Austin Tindle, the English voice behind the main character Haruka Sakura, is optimistic about returning if the series gets a green light for a third season.
In an exclusive interview with CBR, conducted by Annie Banks, Tindle mentioned that there is currently no official word on the continuation of Wind Breaker into a third season. However, there is a clear fan demand for the anime to keep animating the manga’s narrative in a serialized format. Tindle shares the enthusiasm of the fandom and hopes for a renewal.
Tindle also shared his vision for a potential third season. “If it does happen, then, you know, I think at the end of Season Two we saw the introduction of Endo, played by Aaron Roberts, who is a dear friend of mine. I love him as an actor. He’s a profound thinker, very intentional in his approach, and he’s thoroughly studied the manga,” Tindle said, emphasizing the importance of Roberts’ return as Endo in Wind Breaker.
The Voice of Haruka Sakura Believes in the Future of Wind Breaker
“So they haven’t announced a Season 3 yet. I really hope and pray that it’s coming. Season 2 was announced really quickly after Season 1, which doesn’t always happen, so I don’t know. There’s been so much hype for the show. It, it feels like certainly, there’s gotta be another one, but I just haven’t heard any actual news about it.”
Tindle then pitched his own concept for Wind Breaker Season 3 if the hypothetical season renewal does come into fruition. “If it does happen, then, you know, I think at the end of Season Two we saw the introduction of Endo, Aaron Roberts’ character, and [he] is a dear friend of mine. I love him as an actor, and he’s such a deep thinker; he’s very intentional as an actor, and he’s studied the whole manga,” the voice actor insisted when emphasizing how necessary Roberts’ return as Endo is to Wind Breaker.
He continued to add, “[Roberts] has a lot of amazing thoughts about this new villain, and I hope that if Season 3 comes out, we’re going to see that relationship develop between this new antagonist and protagonist. There’s something so ripe about this unchecked young male energy, going back to that idea of young male energy. In Season Two, we had [Sakura and Endo] talking about how they describe a fight as a conversation, and even in all those fights that take place in that theater between the two schools, there’s the intimacy, you know, almost in there, it’s almost similar to the intimacy between romantic partners. There’s this closeness and this mutual energy and, dare I say, respect that is taking place; it’s helping these people learn about themselves, and you know, I think young men need more of that right now. Young men need more responsibility and community, and they need an opportunity to understand themselves more and each other. I hope this show promotes that.”
Austin Tindle Connects Wind Breaker’s Sakura To Tokyo Ghoul’s Kaneki Ken
Perhaps an unlikely comparison, Tindle is sure that there’s a way to trace Kaneki Ken back to Sakura. “Kaneki and Sakura, I think, both inhabit [a sense of being alone] at the beginning. Sakura has this immediate instinct to better himself and to push forward. He walks into the environment with this aggressive tone. Kaneki is kind of implosive, and the monster within him comes out, and there’s something that ties into the repression of emotions there. Sakura is very explosive, and he’s going to prove that he’s okay by coming at life head-on,” he said.
Tindle then added, “I think Kaneki has this yearning. Sakura is fighting against the yearning, but they’re both in their own way, they’re both yearning to an extent. They need community, and they’re both orphans,” the voice actor deduced when piecing the unexpected pair together. “I hadn’t thought until now what kind of opposite in Yin Yang, these two kinds of characters are with their black and white hair, because [Kaneki] is always the one that’s like, ‘I don’t know if I can do this’, and then he always does do it, and Sakura is the one that’s like, ‘I’m the best, I’m gonna beat everyone,’ but his journey is learning humility.”
