Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — The Movie: Mugen Train has rolled onto streaming platforms in North America, delighting fans who can now watch it without needing a subscription.
Anime enthusiasts in the U.S. and Canada can rejoice as both the original Japanese version and the English dub of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — The Movie: Mugen Train are available for streaming, thanks to Amasian TV. The movie can be accessed through video-on-demand services or via Amasian TV’s free ad-supported television (FAST) platform. Remarkably, viewers don’t even need to create an account to enjoy the film.
Helmed by director Haruo Sotozaki, Mugen Train debuted in Japan in October 2020 and quickly captured the hearts of anime fans worldwide. This cinematic adaptation, the first for the Demon Slayer franchise, continues the storyline from the TV series’ first season. It follows the main characters as they face off against Enmu, one of Muzan’s Twelve Kizuki, and the formidable Upper Rank Three, Akaza.
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Is Now Available to Watch Free in the U.S. and Canada
Directed by Haruo Sotozaki, Mugen Train premiered in Japan in October 2020 and quickly became the then-latest breakout anime sensation. As the franchise’s first feature film adaptation, the movie picks up with the core cast of Demon Slayer following the first season of the mainline anime TV series, following them as they encounter Enmu — one of Muzan’s Twelve Kizuki — and Upper Rank Three Akaza.
Upon its release, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — The Movie: Mugen Train was widely lauded by critics and audiences alike. As of the time of writing, the movie holds near-identical 98% “Fresh” Tomatometer and 99% Popcornmeter ratings via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across 49 critical reviews and over 10,000 user-submitted reviews, respectively.
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Is Still Japan’s Biggest Box Office Hit of All Time (For Now)
The film was also an enormous financial success, breaking numerous records over the course of its theatrical release. It currently reigns as the single highest-grossing feature film in Japan of any medium, raking in 40.75 billion yen at the domestic box office (as of writing, still just above its sequel, Infinity Castle, which currently ranks as Japan’s #2 theatrical film of all time at roughly 39.93 billion yen in domestic box office earnings).
Meanwhile, Demon Slayer fans are still awaiting a streaming release date for the franchise’s most recent film, Infinity Castle. However, the movie appears unlikely to receive any firm streaming release date until it leaves Japanese theaters on April 9. Cinema-goers have been enticed back to theaters with a pair of matching illustration cards only available at the box office.
Based on Koyoharu Gotouge’s original manga of the same name, the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime series from Ufotable, Aniplex and Shueisha premiered in 2019, just three years after the source material made its debut. The series follows Tanjiro Kamado, a teenager who joins the Demon Slayer Corps in hopes of exacting his vengeance for the murder of most of his family and curing his sister, Nezuko, of her infernal affliction.
Since its premiere, Demon Slayer has largely dominated the competition, firmly establishing its place in modern pop culture. Unfortunately, that ride is set to come to an end with the next two films in the series, which will serve to officially close out the overarching Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba story.
