Berserk has recently been reimagined in a unique and humorous way, thanks to a beloved animator who has given the dark fantasy series a “Saturday Morning Cartoon” makeover.

On January 31st, fans of Berserk were treated to an imaginative twist on the series with the release of “Saturday Morning Berserk” on the Solid jj YouTube channel. This creative short cleverly parodies the intense saga of Guts and his companions by reimagining them as characters reminiscent of those from the classic cartoon Scooby-Doo.

For six years, the Solid jj YouTube channel has been entertaining audiences with cheeky animated parodies of well-loved cartoons and video games. Over time, it has attracted a substantial following, boasting over 1.5 million subscribers. The channel’s surge in popularity can be attributed to its clever still-frame parodies of iconic titles and characters, which have resonated with viewers and expanded its fanbase.

The official video description for “Saturday Morning Berserk” reads, “Guts, Casca, Pippin, Judeau and Corkus explore the wacky Eclipse in search for Griffith, but they’re in for a scare! It’s Berserk but they’re in Scooby-Doo! That’s it! It’s like a Saturday Morning cartoon! Do you get the name now? Was this what made it click for you? Guts and Casca are in this! And Pippin’s the dog!”

The Solid jj YouTube Channel has been providing viewers with raunchy animated spoofs of classic cartoon and video game characters for six years, and in that time has amassed over 1.5 million subscribers. In recent years, the channel’s popularity has exploded, largely thanks to its series of still-frame spoofs of popular titles and characters.

The Berserk franchise began back in 1989 with creator Kentaro Miura’s original manga of the same name. Since its debut, Berserk has amassed what now stands at 43 volumes and counting, and has been widely lauded by critics and audiences alike.

Set in a grim fantasy world, Berserk follows Guts, a wandering warrior born under horrific circumstances who is compelled to join the group of mercenaries known as the Band of the Hawk. Over the course of his journey with the Band of the Hawk, Guts finds the kind of friends he never knew he could have, as well as a profound love for his fellow warrior, Casca, all of which is dashed during the mind-bending, demonic event known as the Eclipse.

In the years since the manga was released, Berserk has become a staple of not just the realm of manga and anime, but pop culture as a whole. The franchise has been adapted for both the small and silver screens on multiple occasions, the latest of which came in the form of the 2016 anime from studios GEMBA, Millepensee and Liden Films.

In early January, fans of the Berserk manga got an update from artist Kouji Mori, who took over supervision of the series after Miura’s passing in 2021. “This year as well, I’ll be tackling my own serialization and the supervision of Berserk with full effort,” Mori wrote. “As always, I won’t be drawing Guts in the main story! Rest assured. That said, Guts is really difficult to draw. Mr. [Yoshimitsu] Kurosaki is truly amazing!!”
