Unveiling the Lost Gundam Prequel: Surprise Revival with Master Grade Gunpla Model Kit Release

Over the past couple of years, Bandai has been steadily reintroducing numerous model kits from the Mobile Suit Gundam series, focusing on some of the most beloved versions of the iconic mecha brand. Now, the spotlight is turning to one of the franchise’s lesser-known gems, with two collectible items making a comeback.

The MG 1/100 Gundam F90 is set to return, offering enthusiasts another chance to own a mecha inspired by a Universal Century prequel manga. Accompanying this release are two expansion sets that significantly enhance the mobile suit’s already formidable capabilities. One of these sets even equips the collectible for snowy terrains, adding a unique twist. Fans can now place their pre-orders for this versatile piece of merchandise.

Originally launched in 2019, the MG 1/100 Gundam F90 is making its way back to shelves, alongside several expansion sets. This model is based on the Mobile Suit Gundam F90 manga, which serves as a prequel to the Mobile Suit Gundam F91 anime film. With upgraded joint engineering, the model boasts enhanced articulation, allowing fans to pose it dynamically with its array of weapons.

Gundam F90 Returns With Some of the Most Versatile Expansion Set Re-Releases

The MG 1/100 Gundam F90 was first released in 2019, and now, it’s set to be put back on the market alongside several expansion sets. This design is derived from the titular Mobile Suit Gundam F90 manga — itself a prequel to the Mobile Suit Gundam F91 anime movie. Featuring new extensive articulation through joint engineering, it can easily be posed to show off its many weapons.

These include a Beam Rifle, Beam Sabers and a mighty shield, with these visually bolstered by water slide decals. Also being reissued are different expansion weapon sets designed by Kunio Okawara, with these being able to create a radically different aesthetic for the Master Grade model kit.

The first of these is the MG 1/100 Gundam F90 Mission Pack F-Type & M-Type, with the F-Type providing extra armor that makes the mobile suit perfect for melee combat. The M-Type changes up the color scheme by adding an orange jetpack and arrow shooter, with missile launchers and other firearms dotting the extra armor.

There’s also the MG 1/100 Gundam F90 Mission Pack C-Type & T-Type, with one of these offering a climate-based design for the mobile suit. The C-type adds a fabric mantle and even skis for the bottom of the mecha’s feet, with the Beam Sabers acting as ski poles. Meanwhile, the T-Type adds even bigger shields and a massive booster on the back, presenting the best defensive form for the mech.

The base model kit will cost around US$32, with the expansion sets costing around $17 and $18, respectively. Pre-orders are open now, with the Gundam itself and the weapons expected to ship out in June 2026.
