A Newcastle man has been charged with manslaughter after allegedly tackling a 46-year-old man, who sustained a serious spinal injury and died days later.
On May 22, emergency services were called to a home on Lovell Street in Cardiff, in the Lake Macquarie region, following reports that a man had sustained serious spinal injuries and was unable to move.
The 46-year-old was taken to John Hunter Hospital and later transported to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
The man died in hospital on June 2.
Investigations began shortly after the man’s death.
Yesterday, the 48-year-old who allegedly tackled the man was arrested at his Shortland home and taken into custody.
Police will allege the man sustained the injury that led to his death after being tackled by the 48-year-old.
He was taken to Waratah Police Station, where he was charged with manslaughter.
The granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle local court on November 26.
