A CCTV camera caught the moment the man approached the woman before she fell to the ground.

He is then seen walking away as she lies on the ground.

The woman was taken to hospital in a stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries, Ambulance Victoria said.

Members of the public rushed to restrain the 39-year-old man, Victoria Police said.

The 92-year-old today released a statement thanking the public for their assistance.

“I wish to thank all those who have been so caring of me,” she said.

“I remember nothing of the actual incident, but when I woke up, I was surrounded by the police and ambulance and caring onlookers.

“I wish to thank everyone for their concern, I’m pleased to go home as I have a loving family and supportive friends.”

The man, who has no fixed address, was arrested when police arrived on scene yesterday and has since been charged with intentionally causing injury.

He fronted Melbourne’s Magistrates Court today and has been remanded in custody until May 8.
