A teacher from Adelaide’s eastern suburbs has pleaded guilty to snatching a dog from his loving family’s backyard.

Bethany Hunt, 53, admitted to the theft of Alfredo the Maremma in court today.

The court heard that Hunt had been observed near the property in the days leading up to the dog’s disappearance.

“It’s unbelievable what has happened… I don’t know the reason why she’s done that,” Alfredo’s owner, Ettore, said.

“At least she admitted that she was guilty, but as I say to you, I pray for her, because it’s very weird that someone stole a dog for no reason.”

Today, Hunt revealed she did so because neighbours had told her they were worried about the dog’s welfare.

Hunt also claimed the RSPCA had been called.

However, 9News contacted the organisation and no records exist, with the only trace of Ettore in the system for helping in another rescue.

He denied any suggestion that his dog was not well cared for.

“Alfredo is treated very well… I like to cook for him at home, I like to play with him,” Ettore said.

Hunt avoided a conviction in the matter.
