Airport staff locked themselves inside an airbridge to get away from an allegedly abusive passenger.

The 51-year old allegedly abused airline check-in staff at Perth Airport after they asked if he had been drinking.

Workers called the Australian Federal Police.

They allege the man then tried to slap away the hand of an officer who tried to speak with him.

He then allegedly threatened to grab an officer’s gun.

He was arrested and charged for allegedly obstructing a public official and acting in a disorderly manner in public.

AFP Inspector Peter Brindal said aggressive or abusive behaviour towards airline staff was unacceptable.

“Airline staff perform a crucial task in making the airport run smoothly and shouldn’t have to deal with unruly people who think the law doesn’t apply to them,” Insp Brindal said.

“The AFP works closely with its airline partners and won’t hesitate to act if called for assistance.”
