Anthony Jones, an accomplished American chef, is making waves as a contestant on the 2026 season of Top Chef. Currently serving as the executive chef at Marcus DC, Anthony has been recognized as a semifinalist for the James Beard Award in the Emerging Chef category. His culinary prowess was also showcased when he competed on Food Network’s “Chopped” in 2022.

Originally from Sunderland, Maryland, Anthony’s passion for cooking ignited during his middle school years. After earning a degree in culinary arts from Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte, North Carolina, he relocated to Washington, D.C. There, his career quickly flourished, culminating in a prestigious position as Chef de Cuisine at the renowned Restaurant Eve, where he worked alongside celebrated chef Cathal Armstrong.

Anthony’s journey then led him to join Marcus Samuelsson’s team as the Executive Sous Chef, contributing to the launch of Red Rooster Overtown in Miami. Under his guidance, the restaurant achieved a Michelin Bib Gourmand distinction. Returning to D.C., Anthony took the helm at Dirty Habit DC for two years, earning accolades before establishing Marcus DC as Executive Chef. The restaurant garnered acclaim, being named one of the top five by the Washington Post, and Anthony was honored as Rising Chef of the Year by Eater DC in 2025.

At Marcus DC, Anthony crafts a menu that tells the rich stories of the Black diaspora. His standout creation, Mel’s Crab Rice, pays homage to his upbringing near the Chesapeake Bay and was celebrated by the Washington Post as one of the city’s best dishes, inspired by his family’s favorite crab shack.

Beyond his restaurant endeavors, Anthony participated in the inaugural Roots to Glory Diaspora Tour. His culinary style is a vibrant fusion of African and Latin flavors, with a strong emphasis on utilizing local ingredients to elevate his dishes.

Marcus DC executive chef Anthony Jones is competing in season 23 of Top Chef on Bravo. He will be vying for the title in North Carolina, alongside fellow DC-area chef Jonathan Dearden, corporate chef at KNEAD Hospitality + Design. Anthony has been watching Top Chef since season 1, when Harold Dieterle won the competition.

“It’s always been something that I watched, especially when I went to culinary school,” Anthony told Washingtonian. “It was a nice challenge for me. It’s a very serious competition. It’s nothing that we normally handle on a regular basis. There are elements of course that correlate with regular restaurant life, but Top Chef takes it even further.”
