Apple has issued a call to action for Australian users with older iPhones and Apple Watches, advising them to update their software to mitigate potential issues with emergency call connectivity.

This advisory, initially released in December, was prompted by incidents where older smartphones experienced a “technical failure.” This failure hindered these devices from connecting to an alternate network for emergency calls when their primary network was down.

Originally, the notice targeted iPhone 12 models. However, Apple has recently extended this warning to encompass additional older iPhones and Apple Watch models.

“In rare cases where mobile operators’ networks are disrupted, some older mobile devices might still face difficulties accessing emergency services through an available alternate network,” Apple stated.

Apple has indicated that this network issue could affect several of their devices.

Apple said this network issue might impact the following devices.
