Trevor Gillmeister, a former star of the State of Origin and the Brisbane Broncos, is facing several charges following an alleged assault on a police officer outside a Brisbane pub.
The incident reportedly unfolded at the Stock Exchange Hotel in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD on Friday night. According to witnesses, a disturbance inside the venue prompted a bystander to alert police officers.
Gillmeister allegedly attempted to strike a staff member within the hotel, leading to his ejection from the premises.
As officers moved to arrest the 61-year-old on charges of public nuisance, it is claimed that he pushed one of the officers and engaged in a physical confrontation.
Sources from 9News indicate that the officer’s vest was nearly torn off during the altercation.
Gillmeister was arrested, taken to the Brisbane Watchhouse and charged with assaulting a police officer, obstructing police and public nuisance.Â
He will face court in early December.Â
Reached for comment on Monday evening, Gillmeister declined to comment.
