In a tragic incident that unfolded in north-west Sydney, authorities have seized a utility vehicle (ute) and are currently scrutinizing its driver following a suspected hit-and-run that claimed the life of a young man.
The heartbreaking sequence of events began around 7:45 p.m. yesterday, when a passing motorist made a distressing discovery on Old Kurrajong Road in Richmond. The driver spotted a 23-year-old man lying unresponsive by the roadside and promptly alerted emergency services.
Despite the rapid response of paramedics, the young man tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene. In the aftermath, police established a crime scene and forensic specialists determined that the man had been struck by a vehicle, which unfortunately fled the scene without stopping.
Roughly an hour after the initial discovery, law enforcement received another call reporting an incident involving a Nissan Navara ute. The vehicle had veered off the road, ending up overturned in a paddock on Kurmond Road, North Richmond.
About one hour later, officers were called when a Nissan Navara ute left the road and rolled into a paddock at Kurmond Road, North Richmond.
CCTV footage shows the Nivara rolling down an embankment and stopping in dense bushland on the side of the road.
A 41-year-old man was treated at the scene for minor injuries before being taken to hospital for assessment.
The man is now being investigated by police, but no charges or arrests have been made.
A second crime scene was set up at the paddock where the vehicle will be seized for forensic examination.
Police are investigating if the incidents are linked.
