In a dramatic turn of events, a Virgin Australia passenger jet faced a fiery challenge upon landing at Brisbane Airport last night. This incident unfolded when a fire erupted within the aircraft’s brake system shortly after touchdown.

The aircraft, Flight VA 454, had just completed its journey from Darwin, carrying 178 passengers, when the unexpected blaze ignited. The flight had landed shortly before 7 p.m., setting off an immediate emergency response.

Quick to react, airport firefighters rushed to the scene and efficiently extinguished the flames, ensuring the safety of those on board. Thanks to their swift action, all passengers and crew members were able to disembark safely, with no injuries reported.

Following the incident, Virgin Australia has announced that the plane will undergo a thorough inspection by engineers before it is deemed ready to return to service. Their priority remains the safety and well-being of their passengers and crew.

Virgin Australia said today engineers would be inspecting the plane before it is returned to service.

“Airport firefighters responded to a brake fire on flight VA454 which occurred after landing at Brisbane airport last night,” a spokesperson for the airline said.

“The fire was quickly extinguished, and all guests and crew disembarked normally and safely.

“We thank our crew and airport firefighters for their swift response.

“The safety of our guests and crew is always our highest priority.”

Virgin Australia said there were no delays to other services and the carrier does not anticipate impacts to today’s scheduled flights.
