A man has lost his car after police spotted some idiosyncratic design choices while he was on the road in Melbourne’s south-east.

Officers did a double-take when they saw the burgundy BMW on Greaves Road at Cranbourne North on the afternoon of Monday, July 21, apparently driving without a bonnet.

They pulled the car over and saw the bonnet was gone, exposing the engine.

Police also realised the car’s front seats had been removed and the man was sitting on a plastic garden chair.

The driver, a 64-year-old Narre Warren South man, allegedly told police he knew the car was not roadworthy and he was travelling to get some parts.

He was issued with a defect notice and is expected to be charged on summons with traffic offences.
