A retiree has stunned Aussies by revealing the huge amount he saved up while working as a driver.

The unnamed man, 84, from New Zealand, told home financing company Coposit he had amassed a whopping $2.3million in a TikTok video.

At first the unnamed elderly man, who was sitting on bench in Sydney, was wary about revealing his nest egg and asked the interviewer if she ‘really wanted to know’.

When asked how he accumulated such impressive savings, the man replied it had been done by ‘working hard and investing in property’ while driving trucks, trams and buses in Wellington.

‘I invested some money which I trebled and that gave me a chance to build on,’ he said.

The man also revealed that he bought his first house 30 years ago.

He admitted the property market was ‘a lot better than what it is now’.

However, he thought people could set themselves up financially.

‘It’s up to them if they want to work then they can work and they can get to make money and stuff like that,’ he said.

‘But if they don’t want to work, people who are on the dole, we used to have taxis in the Wellington area.

‘We used to take four or five people home all on on the dole who were getting more money a week than what we were getting.’

He had some advice to those wanting to build similar riches.

‘Save up or else capitalise with the bank, borrow yourself right up to the hilt with a house and then within 18 months sell it when it starts going up,’ the man said.

Several social media users thought his advice was less applicable now.

‘That generation – if you bought property, you are now sweet,’ one said.

‘I’m guessing he’s talking about Wellington New Zealand and it’s a lot more expensive now I think the average house is over 900K,’ another commented.

‘He didn’t work any harder than we are now.. he was just born at the right time,’ another said.

’90k on a house .. pay it off then just buy up the property market.’

Others shared tongue-in-cheek respones.

‘Can you be my grandpa?’ one said.

‘Is he single?’ another hopeful asked.
