Sydneysiders are being warned to brace for more wild weather following last night’s snap storm, which left thousands without power and brought public transport to a halt.
Senior Meteorologist at the Bureau of Meteorology, Christie Johnston, said yesterday’s conditions brought strong winds, heavy rainfall and even hail in some parts of Sydney.

A weather expert on the Today show explained, “The weather system has now moved offshore, and we’re anticipating a very cold front to follow.”

”There could still be some severe storms today, but they are most likely to just produce damaging winds in southeastern parts of NSW,” she said.

She attributed this to an offshore low-pressure system, which is generating intense winds, massive surf, and significantly large waves.

In Sydney today, temperatures are expected to peak at 21 degrees, accompanied by strong winds sweeping through the city.

Last night’s severe weather disrupted Metro services between Sydenham and Chatswood, leaving thousands of Sydney residents without power.

Fortunately, transportation across the city has now resumed normal operations.

The storm also plunged Brookvale Oval into darkness less than an hour before the Roosters vs Sea Eagles clash, but the match went on as usual once the conditions cleared.

Strong winds also extended into the state’s central west, with footage capturing the moment a crane was sent toppling to the pavement as gusts reaching speeds of up to 115km/h swept through Dubbo yesterday.
