The Assembly of Experts, the influential body responsible for selecting Iran’s next supreme leader, has reportedly made its decision, according to statements from several hardline members. However, the name of the chosen candidate remains undisclosed.

Ayatollah Ahmad Alam al-Hoda, a prominent cleric from the 88-member assembly, was cited by the semi-official Mehr news agency confirming, “The elections for the leadership have been held and the leader has been appointed.”

Amid this development, speculation is rife about the possibility of Mojtaba Khamenei, the second son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, being named as the new supreme leader.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed interest in influencing the selection process for Iran’s top position. However, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, firmly dismissed any such interference, stating in an interview with NBC in the United States, “We allow nobody to interfere in our domestic affairs. This is up to the Iranian people to elect their new leader.”

“We allow nobody to interfere in our domestic affairs. This is up to the Iranian people to elect their new leader,” Araghchi NBC in the United States.

“It’s only the business of the Iranian people, and nobody else’s business.”

But Trump told US media that the new supreme leader “is not going to last long” without his approval.

“He’s going to have to get approval from us,” Trump told ABC News in an interview. “If he doesn’t get approval from us he’s not going to last long.”
