Car Connect, a service that has been facilitating connections between car buyers and dealerships since the early 2000s, is currently under scrutiny following a concerning investigation.
Authorities have discovered that approximately 200 customers have either fully paid for vehicles or made deposits without receiving their cars. This revelation has raised significant concerns among those affected.
According to Colbran and Lord, out of these customers, 181 individuals have made deposits, while 23 have paid the full amount, yet they are still waiting for their vehicles to be delivered.
“Today, we released the initial Creditors Report, and although our investigation is still in its early stages, it’s clear that around 200 individuals, along with automotive dealers and other stakeholders, are affected,” Colbran stated in a press release.
He further explained, “For those who have made payments but whose orders cannot be fulfilled, these transactions will be converted into creditor claims. Since the company has ceased operations, it is unable to process refunds.”
The administrators have now begun the process of finding a buyer.
Car Connect has been described as an “attractive” business opportunity to potential buyers.
”In seeking a buyer, our priority is to facilitate the best outcome for all stakeholders which involves realising the maximum return for Carconnect’s valuable intellectual property,” Colbran added.
Impacted customers will be contacted as a “matter of urgency”.
”We understand this will be very distressing news for customers in particular,” Colbran said.
Eligible customers can submit a claim through the motor dealers and repairers’ compensation fund.
