CCTV has captured the moments after sacked Fox Sports reporter James Hooper allegedly crashed into three parked cars while drunk in Sydney.
Police say the 47-year-old was almost five times over the legal limit when he crashed his ute in Leichhardt on Thursday night.
Neighbour Paul Green was first on the scene and claimed Hooper did not seem eager to stick around.
“He just tried to get out of there straight away, put the car in reverse to get off the car, he was collected on, and he couldn’t get off,” he said.
CCTV footage showed Hooper pacing past the scene.
Green said he walked up the street but went the wrong way.
“We lost sight of him in the dark. He came back and headed in the right direction to the house,” he said.
“That’s when police caught up with him near the roundabout at the bottom of the hill.”
Hooper was charged with high-range drink driving and failing to give his details to the owners of the smashed cars.
He will face the Downing Centre Court in September.
A day after the collision, he lost his job as an NRL reporter with Fox Sports.
“I’ve let the game of rugby league, my employers, my wife and kids down terribly,” Hooper said.
Fox Sports described him as a great contributor to the organisation, who has battled significant personal issues.
