Erika Kirk has been named CEO of Turning Point USA, taking over the organisation that her husband, Charlie Kirk, helped found and led until his assassination last week.

The group’s board announced on Thursday (Friday morning AEST) that Erika has been unanimously elected to be the group’s new CEO and board chair.

“In prior discussions, Charlie expressed to multiple executives that this is what he wanted in the event of his death,” the group said in a social media post announcing the decision.

Charlie co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012 and transformed it into one of the most influential conservative organisations that was credited with galvanising youth toward Donald Trump’s MAGA movement.
