A troubling incident unfolded in Melbourne when a young woman was allegedly attacked by a man she knew, who had been lurking outside her residence. This shocking event has taken a grim turn with the discovery of the suspect’s body in the state’s far western region.

The police had been urging the man, known to the victim, to surrender following the violent encounter. However, their search ended with the unfortunate finding of his lifeless body.

According to Victoria Police, the 18-year-old woman had just returned to her home on Miller Grove in Kew at around 1 a.m. after spending the evening with friends. Upon her arrival, she was reportedly ambushed by an 18-year-old male acquaintance from the nearby suburb of Camberwell.

Superintendent Wayne Cheesman of the Victoria Police provided details of the harrowing attack, explaining that the man had been waiting in the shadows outside her home. “He approached her in her driveway as she was about to enter her family home and allegedly stabbed her multiple times,” Cheesman reported.

Police said the attacker fled the scene.

The woman was taken to hospital with what police initially feared were life-threatening injuries.

She is now in a serious condition and recovering in hospital.

Her neighbours in the close-knit street were shaken and scared for the girl who is from a “very lovely family”.

“I just heard like a cry out for help,” a witness said.

9News understands it was another young woman who reported the attack to police.

Despite searches in the area early this morning, the young man could not be found.

However at the same time as officers were combing the scene, police responded to a Triple Zero call in Victoria’s west.

Officers said they found the man’s body about 360 kilometres away at Antwerp, near the SA border.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.
