A former energy minister has criticized the Coalition for allegedly catering to the interests of mining lobbyists while the rest of the world intensifies efforts to reduce emissions.
She announced that both political parties are set to engage in discussions on Sunday aimed at establishing a unified climate and energy policy.
“Renewable energy is the most cost-effective way to introduce new generation capacity into the grid,” she stated, referencing insights from both the Australian Energy Market Operator and the Australian Energy Market Commission.
On Friday, Ley emphasized, “Young Australians have expressed their concerns about climate change to me, and I share their concerns.”
She further criticized the Coalition, stating, “I believe their alignment with countries like Russia and Iran, as well as former US President Donald Trump, is completely misaligned with the expectations of the Australian public regarding their government’s stance.”
“I think the Coalition wants to line up with Russia, with Iran and [US President Donald] Trump, and I think that’s totally out of step with what the Australian community would expect from their government.”

“We will release our suite of policies and that will be done with plenty of time for the Australian people to be able to look at [and] address them [before the next election]”.
