In an unexpected move, a popular snack available at Coles supermarkets throughout Australia has been swiftly recalled due to a concerning discovery. Plastic fragments have been identified within one of the products, prompting immediate action.

Smartfoods Limited, the company behind the product, has decided to withdraw both the raspberry and hazelnut varieties of Tom and Luke’s Low Carb Snackaballs from Coles shelves. This decision affects specific batches of the 112g hazelnut packets, marked with the dates ‘3 SEP 2026’ and ‘11 SEP 2026’. The raspberry packets involved in the recall carry the dates ‘11 SEP 2026’, ‘15 SEP 2026’, and ‘16 OCT 2026’.

These products are available for purchase both in Coles physical stores and through their online platform, making the recall a widespread and significant operation. Customers who have bought these items are urged to check the packaging and return the affected products for a refund.

Impacted 112g hazelnut packets have the dates ‘3 SEP 2026′ and ’11 SEP 2026′ while the raspberry packets are marked ’11 SEP 2026′, ’15 SEP 2026′ and ’16 OCT 2026’.

The product is sold both in-store and online.

‘Food products containing plastic may cause illness/injury if consumed,’ Food Standards Australia and New Zealand said in an alert issued on Friday.

‘Consumers should not eat this product.’

Customers can return the product to stores for a full refund.

Any shoppers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.
