The Whittlesea Council has reached out to Geographic Names Victoria (GNV) to address concerns regarding a potential road name change.
“According to the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria, road names are intended to be lasting and should only be altered when absolutely necessary,” a spokesperson for the Whittlesea Council stated.
The council emphasized the requirement for “demonstrated support from a majority of affected residents” before moving forward with any application to change the street’s name.
“If there’s evident backing from the street’s residents for a name change, the council will initiate a formal consultation process and, if deemed suitable, submit a renaming proposal to GNV for evaluation,” the spokesperson added.
Currently, the council is in discussions with the residents who have expressed interest in a name change to determine the next steps.
