A man has died and another is fighting for life after a construction site accident in Sydney’s north-west this morning.

Paramedics were called to a Meriton construction site on Pennant Hills Road in Carlingford at 9am.

They found two men, one in his 30s and one in his 40s, with serious injuries after a concrete pump had fallen on the pair.

The site went into immediate lockdown as the men received medical attention.

The man in his 30s was transported to Royal North Shore Hospital, while the other was taken to Westmead Hospital. Both were in a critical condition.

Meriton confirmed the older man had died this afternoon.

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that a tragic incident occurred at our Carlingford construction site at approximately 9am this morning,” Meriton said in a statement.

“Our hearts go out to their families, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are cooperating fully with SafeWork NSW and the relevant authorities as investigations are underway to understand how this incident occurred.”

NSW Police confirmed investigations were ongoing.

“A crime scene has been established and investigations have commenced into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” they said in a statement.

“The incident has been referred to SafeWork NSW.”

The company’s billionaire owner Harry Triguboff paid a visit to the site, which was involved in another emergency six weeks ago.

Powerful winds left a huge crane leaning dangerously, forcing more than 300 people to evacuate nearby homes and businesses and shut down parts of Pennant Hills Road.

The CFMEU said the accident was a “shocking workplace death”.
