The Maldives will no longer accept Israeli passport holders into the island nation in response to the war in Gaza.

President Mohamed Muizzu announced on Tuesday that the country’s Immigration Act has been amended to prohibit Israeli passport holders from entering.

Muizzu said the decision came after Israel broke its ceasefire agreement with Palestine.

“This amendment prohibits the entry of individuals holding Israeli passports into the Maldives, a clear reflection of our stand against the ongoing atrocities in Palestine,” he said in an Instagram post announcing the change.

“The Maldives reaffirms its unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people.”

Despite a ceasefire agreement being reached on January 19, 2025, Israel launched a surprise airstrike on Gaza in March, saying it was doing so to push Hamas to release the remaining 59 hostages taken by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

Hundreds of Palestinian civilians have been killed since then.
