The Carlisle River fire, currently advancing southward from the junction of Carlisle River Road and Walls-Skinner Track, has prompted an urgent response from local authorities. Residents in the area are being strongly advised to seek immediate shelter as firefighting teams work tirelessly to bring the blaze under control.
An emergency alert has been declared for several communities, including Beech Forest, Carlisle River, Charleys Creek, Dinmont, Ferguson, Gellibrand, Irrewillipe, Pile Siding, Weeaproinah, Wimba, and Wyelangta. The situation is critical, with lives and homes at imminent risk.
According to Vic Emergency, “This fire poses a direct threat to homes and lives. It is no longer safe to evacuate the area, and taking shelter is the only viable option at this point.”
“This fire is threatening homes and lives,” Vic Emergency said in a warning.
“It is too late to leave the area safely so you must take shelter now.
“A wind change is expected around 5pm.
“This will cause the fire to change directions towards Barongarook.”
“The safest option is to take shelter indoors immediately. It is too late to leave.”
A total fire ban is in place today for East Gippsland, West and South Gippsland, North East, Central, North Central, Northern Country, South West, Wimmera and Mallee.
