The school attended by young Bondi victim Matilda has shared a heartfelt tribute in her honor.
Instead of summarizing their message, we bring you their words directly.
Notably, the tribute speaks of 10-year-old Matilda in the present tense.
Our La Perouse School community is heartbroken over the loss of Matilda.
Matilda is our “wuri-wuri,” our little ray of sunshine. She genuinely embodies kindness, care, and compassion, brightening everyone’s day with her radiant smile and infectious laughter.
Matilda has an incredible gift for bringing joy to those around her. It was only last Friday at Presentation Day, when she was beaming, thinking her bestie was going to win the Soroptimist International Literacy Award. Little did she know it was her name that was going to be announced. We watched as she rose in surprise, and slowly started to make her way to the stage. Her smile shining brighter than ever, and even though we were told “no wooing” as we weren’t at a concert, how could be resist? We watched Matilda reach every single goal she set out to achieve and we were so proud of her.
Matilda is also known for her close bond with her sister, Summer. The girls adored each other and their relationship is something truly special. When Summer was asked who she wanted to be when she grew up, she would always reply “Matilda”.
Matilda is deeply respected and loved by both students and staff alike. We all have so many beautiful memories of her – from choreographing dances on the playground to K-Pop Demon Hunters, losing her glasses that were actually on her head, to facing her fears and bravely presenting her speech in front of her classmates, Matilda has a strength and joy for life that we will always cherish and remember.
