David Walliams, a renowned British children’s author and comedian, has refuted claims of misconduct following HarperCollins’ decision to discontinue publishing his works.

At 54, Walliams is not only celebrated for his bestselling children’s books in the UK but also recognized as a former judge on the popular television program, Britain’s Got Talent.

In an announcement made on Friday, HarperCollins stated, “Following a thorough evaluation and under the guidance of our new CEO, HarperCollins UK has resolved not to publish any forthcoming books by David Walliams. The author has been informed of this resolution.”

Responding to the situation, a representative for Walliams emphasized in a statement that he “has never been notified of any allegations by HarperCollins.”

The statement further asserted, “David was neither involved in any investigation nor given the chance to respond to inquiries. He firmly denies any inappropriate conduct and is currently seeking legal counsel.”

The publisher said it would not comment on internal matters, “to respect the privacy of individuals.”

“HarperCollins takes employee wellbeing extremely seriously and has processes in place for reporting and investigating concerns,” it said.

Walliams has published over 40 children’s books and sold more than 60 million copies worldwide, according to his website. Several of them, including Gangsta Granny, have been adapted into a BBC comedy dramas and stage productions.

Walliams left his role as judge on Britain’s Got Talent in 2022 after apologising for making “disrespectful comments” about auditioning contestants.
