A group of six young men, all between the ages of 18 and 19, found themselves in a precarious situation after getting stranded on a summit overnight. Fortunately, none of them were injured, and they maintained regular communication with Queensland Police throughout the ordeal.
This morning, a rescue helicopter successfully airlifted the men to safety, concluding their unexpected adventure.
Tragically, this incident follows closely on the heels of a fatal accident involving an 18-year-old woman, who fell 60 meters to her death at Mount Beerwah in the Glasshouse Mountains.
Her boyfriend also experienced a severe fall, plummeting 90 meters and sustaining critical head injuries in the process.
He was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he continues to receive treatment and is listed in critical condition.
It is expected to reopen tomorrow, a spokesperson from the Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation said.
