Thick, brown dust is descending on four suburbs in Adelaide’s south, leaving residents feeling frustrated and concerned about their health

The dust, which has been a problem for the past 12 months, is coating cars, homes and even furniture inside.

“In the last 12 months the house has been absolutely caked in brown dust,” resident Tony Gold said.

“My asthma has been really bad,” he added. 

Fellow local Barry Santry echoed the concerns. 

“It goes everywhere and with the right wind it goes inside as well … when you leave the door open,” he said.

Residents believe the dust problem coincided with the construction of a new Villawood Homes housing development in Seacliff.

A spokesperson for Villawood Properties said South Australia had just endured its driest summer in more than three decades, resulting in ongoing dust issues.

The company also stated it is using recycled water to mitigate the dust as much as possible.

Locals have expressed concerns over the dust. (9News)

Marion Council and the EPA said the dust mitigation strategies did meet government standards. 

“They say they want to do the right thing, but based on what we’re hearing from residents, probably more needs to be done,” Marion Council Mayor Kris Hanna said.
