Several people walked out of Dylan Moran’s comedy show in New Zealand over the weekend after the famed Irish comedian reportedly turned up on stage ‘drunk’.

Moran, 51, was kicking off his tour at the Isaac Theatre Royal in Christchurch on Saturday.

Fan Rebecca Mackle told Stuff.co.nz that Dylan was ‘incoherent’ during the standup routine.

‘It was really disappointing. He was mumbling and incoherent, and he kept losing his train of thought. He’d start a joke and lose his place,’ she said.

‘He seemed disconnected from his body. He knocked his microphone over, and threw his jacket across the stage.’

She said Dylan had told audience members he suffered a ‘relapsed’.

‘He told us that he had relapsed with his drinking. After that it wasn’t funny any more. No-one was laughing, it was just sad. He was drunk as a skunk,’ she said.

‘A lot of comedians are a bit messed up. But he hadn’t just had a few drinks, he was trolleyed.’

Rebecca said she and other audience members left early.

Dylan, who was known for smoking and drinking on stage while delivering his comedy routines, spoke of giving up both on The Project in 2019.

‘It became like a job. That’s honestly what it was like. It was like punching the clock. Here we go (he mimes opening a drink) I just got bored, you know,’ he said.

Daily Mail Australia reached out to Dylan for comment.

Dylan is best known for his stand-up work and appearing on the British sitcom, Black Books.
