Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi chose to move to the United Kingdom after Trump’s re-election. Initially planning only a short stay, they decided to remain permanently following the election results. DeGeneres has also noted concerns over threats to LGBTQ + rights in the U.S., even considering renewing their vows in England if protections are rolled back.

Rosie O’Donnell relocated to Ireland in 2025 with her daughter and service dog, beginning the process of citizenship there. She said the move was directly tied to the return of Trump to the White House. O’Donnell emphasized that she would only consider moving back when equal rights for all Americans feel secure.

Director James Cameron has lived in New Zealand for over a decade and has no plans to return to the U.S. He has applied for New Zealand citizenship, criticizing America for abandoning its core values. Cameron described the U.S. as becoming ‘hollowed out’ for political gain.

Eva Longoria split her time between Mexico and Spain after deciding to leave the U.S. She explained that work obligations drew her abroad, but she also admitted that Trump’s re-election contributed to the decision. Longoria described the atmosphere in the U.S. as ‘dystopian,’ particularly in the post-COVID era.

English actress Sophie Turner, who lived in the U.S. during her marriage to Joe Jonas, has since returned to the U.K. She cited gun violence, the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and rising political unrest as major reasons. Turner said she felt trapped in America and could not imagine raising children under such conditions.

Richard Gere now lives in Spain with his family, explaining that his wife (pictured together) is Spanish and their children benefit from a bilingual upbringing. While his move wasn’t directly because of Trump, he acknowledged the U.S. is heading in a troubling direction. Gere said he remains engaged in American politics despite living abroad.

Courtney Love has settled in the U.K. and applied for British citizenship. While she didn’t explicitly link her move to Trump, she harshly criticized his administration at a public event in London. Love compared the culture around Trump to ’emperor-core,’ calling it frightening and toxic.

Robin Wright has been based in the U.K. for several years and says she prefers the slower pace and greater sense of freedom there. While not directly pointing to Trump, she called America ‘a shitshow.’ Wright highlighted the contrast between life in England and the constant stress and competition she associates with the U.S.
