In an unexpected twist this morning, a DoorDash driver found herself at an illustrious drop-off point, receiving a generous US$100 tip from none other than former President Donald Trump.

Sharon Simmons, hailing from Arkansas, delivered a McDonald’s order favored by Trump, which, according to the White House, was shared among the staff. The occasion also served as a photo opportunity to commemorate the first anniversary of Trump’s “no tax on tips” policy.

Reflecting on the impact of the policy, Sharon expressed her gratitude in a statement from DoorDash, saying, “With the No Tax on Tips policy now in its second year, I’m able to keep more of the tips I earn, which I truly deserve.”

She further highlighted the broader significance of the event, stating, “Today represents the hard-won efforts of countless Dashers nationwide who advocated for our inclusion in this policy.”

“Today is a celebration of the advocacy of thousands of Dashers from around the country who fought to ensure we were included in this policy.”

Outside the White House, Simmons spoke to CNN, praising the Trump policy but acknowledging higher fuel prices were hitting hard.

“Obviously gas prices, they hit us all. It’s not just us, it’s everybody,” she said.
