A routine check on a man asleep in a car in Adelaide led to a disturbing discovery yesterday.

Authorities uncovered homemade explosive devices among other hazardous items in a vehicle located in Clovelly Park.

What began as a standard call for paramedics to assist a man who had been asleep in his car for several hours escalated rapidly into a major emergency operation.

According to local residents interviewed by 9News, they first noticed the vehicle parked on Harcourt Avenue shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 5:15 p.m. following reports from concerned citizens.

Inside the blue Nissan, police reportedly found two improvised explosive devices, a knife, and methamphetamine.

Police then arrested the man who’d been in the car before specialists from the Bomb Response Unit arrived to seize the explosives.

On Wednesday, the man was behind bars, but his car remained on the street, with some unusual items still visible inside, including a gas cylinder and a petrol can.

The 39-year-old man appeared at Christie’s Beach Magistrates Court on Wednesday, charged with possessing an explosive device in public and carrying an offensive weapon.
