A Melbourne father has recalled the moment a knife was held to his chest during a terrifying home invasion.

David had just made himself coffee while his wife Amanda was asleep when two people, who used their T-shirts as balaclavas, started smashing their way into the couple’s Malvern home about 5.30am yesterday.

The pair were relentless in trying to get inside so David took action and fought back.

“I found an intruder with an arm through the window, through the blinds with a knife and I grabbed my computer off my desk and I bashed his hand to try to knock the hand back,” he told 9News.

Despite his efforts, the offenders managed to get inside the home.

That’s when they confronted David with a knife.

“Next thing you know they were in the house, one of them had the knife and he was poking it in my chest and he told me to stay there and asked where the keys,” he said.

The offenders nabbed the keys to the family’s Audi and Jaguar and cash from the bench before fleeing the scene in the vehicles.

The incident has left the family traumatised.

“I feel really fragile today, I feel traumatised, I’m in this brain fog feeling like a zombie,” Amanda said.

“I would be very reluctant to be in the house by myself.”

Police were called to the scene and, just 15 minutes later, located the Jaguar abandoned a few streets away.

The Audi was found about four hours later at a home in Frankston.

A 17-year-old boy, a 23-year-old man and a 36-year-old man were arrested and charged with a string of offences, including theft of a motor vehicle.

9News understands the trio were not directly involved in the aggravated burglary.

At Frankston Magistrates Court today, the 36-year-old was granted bail to reappear on May 5 and the 23-year-old was remanded in custody to face court again on April 4.

The 17-year-old refused to appear in children’s court today and made no application for bail on this matter. He has been remanded in custody to reappear in court on April 7.

Today, police arrested a 15-year-old boy in relation to the alleged home invasion, as well as another home invasion in McKinnon and an attempted home invasion in Bentleigh East that same night.

He’s being questioned by police and charges are expected to be laid.

Investigations remain ongoing.
