The father of a three-year-old who passed away at a Queensland police station after a car accident will stay in custody, as his request for bail was denied.

Samuel Ian Paterson, 24, is accused of being in the vehicle with the toddler Caden Case, Caden’s mother, and another child when the accident occurred near Stapylton on the Gold Coast.

In the early hours of Saturday, the white Mazda reportedly lost control, careening into nearby bushland around 5 a.m., resulting in Caden’s tragic death.

Authorities allege that Paterson was driving at the time, with Caden’s 22-year-old mother and a one-year-old also in the car.

Following the collision, Paterson supposedly left the scene with the other child, initiating an extensive search by authorities.

Police located the pair at a nearby Beenleigh townhouse complex.

Meanwhile, Caden – who was critically injured – and his mother were taken to Beenleigh Police Station by a passerby.

Caden died at the police station from his injuries.
