An Adelaide father has died almost two weeks after he became unresponsive during a police arrest in the city’s eastern suburbs.

Gaurav Kundi, 42, had his life support switched off in the Royal Adelaide Hospital today.

It comes after the Modbury North man was arrested by police on Payneham Road at Royston Park in the early hours of May 29.

“Kundi’s death is being investigated as a death in police custody and Major Crime Investigation Branch will continue to investigate the cause and circumstances of his death and prepare a report for the State Coroner,” SA Police said in a statement.

“The Office of Public Integrity has independent oversight of the investigation into the conduct of the police officers involved in the incident.”

Kaur claimed she stopped filming as one of the officers drove their knee into her partner’s neck.

“I was saying, ‘He’s not well, he’s not well, please don’t do this, just call the ambulance’,” Kaur said.

Police say there is currently “no evidence” to support that claim.

“The senior investigating officer conducting the Commissioner’s Inquiry has reviewed body worn vision and it has been confirmed that at no time was a knee applied to Mr Kundi’s neck.

“His head was not forced into the car or roadway at any point.

“However, the use of restraints during this incident will be closely examined during the Commissioner’s Inquiry.”

9News has obtained video of an Adelaide arrest at the centre of an internal police investigation. It shows Gaurav Kundi, 42, who is now on life support, being forced onto Payneham Road in the city's eastern suburbs, as he and his partner scream that he'd done nothing wrong.

Kundi had been drinking that night before he left his home and began walking along Payneham Road.

His partner believes officers in a passing patrol car may have witnessed him shove her as she tried to encourage him to return home.

“I just go out and follow him. What are you doing here? Let’s get back home. You are drunk. You are not well. We will go home,” she said

“He just pushed me a little bit. You get aside, I can walk.

“The policeman thinks he’s assaulting me and doing domestic violence on the road but (the) policeman is wrong,” she said.

Kundi was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition, where Kaur claims doctors told her his brain was “totally damaged”.

The Indian consulate has been advised of Kundi’s death.
