A second boat has capsized off the Gold Coast Seaway in as many days after a father and son were smashed by a powerful swell.

A volunteer marine rescue crew was nearby and responded to the mayday call from the stranded swimmers within a minute today.

The crew found the vessel submerged and significantly damaged.

“It could be $50,000 or $60,000 worth of damage, ” coast guard David Tapsall said.

The father suffered facial injuries when the wave sent the windscreen crashing down on him.

He was treated by paramedics at VMR Southport.

The boat was eventually pulled from the deep blue and towed back to the Coastguard where the rescued boatie is a member.

“The skipper on our response boat that went out to assist and the child that was on the boat said ‘g’day pop’,” Tapsall said.

“It happened to be his son and grandson.”

The incident is the second serious rescue in as many days in the same spot as yesterday’s capsize where three people were thrown overboard.

The aftermath of ex-tropical Cyclone Alfred has made the bar at the seaway treacherous coupled with a massive swell.

Conditions over the Easter long weekend remain dangerous and authorities are urging boaties to heed the message.

“Please listen to the forecast,” Tapsall said.
