Just yesterday, news broke that the FBI planned to work alongside state agencies for a thorough investigation into the recent shooting incident.

However, by nightfall, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (MCA) found itself barred from accessing crucial evidence in the investigation.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, who would handle any potential state-level charges, voiced her disapproval of this development.

“Following the FBI’s decision to withdraw its cooperation agreement with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, our office swiftly began evaluating all possible avenues to ensure the state investigation proceeds,” Moriarty stated.

“If the FBI is the sole investigative agency, the State will not receive the investigative findings, and our community may never learn about its contents.”

State law enforcement officials said it would be very hard to bring charges without access to the evidence.

Governor Tim Walz said it would be “very, very difficult” for Minnesotans to believe an investigation could be fair without the use of local investigators.

“People in positions of power have already passed judgment, from the president to the vice president to (Homeland Security Secretary) Kristi Noem — have stood and told you things that are verifiably false, verifiably inaccurate,” Walz said.

“It feels very, very difficult that we will get a fair outcome.

“There will certainly be civil cases filed on this, and they will be filed in Minnesota court.”

Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance said the officer who shot Good had “absolute immunity”.

“The precedent here is very simple. You have a federal law enforcement official engaging in federal law enforcement action.

“That’s a federal issue. That guy is protected by absolute immunity.

The Star-Tribune has identified the agent as Jonathan David Ross, a 10-year veteran of ICE.

Vance said the officer had previously been struck and dragged by a car in a similar incident months earlier.

“So you think maybe he’s a little bit sensitive about somebody ramming him with an automobile?”

Court records in that case stated Ross had been dragged about 90m down a Minnesota road while attempting to apprehend a suspect.

Vance said Good was a victim of “left-wing ideology”.

“I can believe that her death is a tragedy while also recognising that it is a tragedy of her own making,” he said.

The officer fired at Good three times when she moved her car forward as another ICE agent grabbed at her car handle.

Mobile phone footage appears to show the agent was already out of the path of the Honda when the shots were fired.

ICE agents are authorised to detain immigrants in the US unlawfully.

Good was an American citizen.

In the hours after her death, the Trump administration characterised Good’s actions as an attempt to “weaponise” her car.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey described that as “bullshit”.

“This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody getting killed,” Frey said.

“We’ve dreaded this moment since the early stages of this ICE presence in Minneapolis.”
