An investigation is under way into a suspicious fire that engulfed a medical clinic in Melbourne's north overnight. 

Emergency services were called to a home used as a medical clinic near the corner of Gaffney and Derby streets in Pascoe Vale about 9.30pm yesterday.

They arrived to find the building entirely consumed by flames.

Emergency services were called to a home used as a medical clinic near the corner of Gaffney and Derby streets in Pascoe Vale about 9.30pm yesterday.

No one was inside at the time, but the fire threatened nearby properties whose residents were evacuated as a precaution.

A warning over smoke in the area was issued while firefighters worked to contain the blaze to the medical clinic, which suffered a structural roof collapse.

The fire was brought under control about 50 minutes later.

Emergency services were called to a home used as a medical clinic near the corner of Gaffney and Derby streets in Pascoe Vale about 9.30pm yesterday.

No injuries were reported.

Fire Rescue Victoria and Victoria Police have deemed the fire suspicious, and a crime scene has been declared at the home.

An arsonist chemist will assess the scene today.

Police urge anyone with information or footage to contact Crime Stoppers.
