A pair of Fitbit smartwatches are receiving a firmware update after injury fears were raised.

The ACCC said the update was being rolled out for some Fitbit Sense and Fitbit Versa 3 watches after it was found the battery might overheat.

Fitbit considers its new update “mitigates the risk of the battery overheating in those devices”, the ACCC’s Product Safety notice said.

Owners do not need to return their Fitbits to receive the update.

They can submit a request online here to find out if their device has been affected.

Not all Versa 3 and Sense Fitbit devices are affected.

If they are, the new battery management system will be activated, the ACCC said.

Once the firmware update has been remotely installed, people can continue using their devices as normal.

People may check if they are eligible for an appeasement from Fitbit here.

Consumers may exercise their rights to a remedy in accordance with the consumer guarantees, which may entitle them to a refund or replacement.
