A 61-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of Tanya Lee Glover, whose wrapped remains lay hidden in the basement of a Brisbane unit complex for more than a decade after she was allegedly killed.

Police say 38-year-old Glover was murdered in January of 2010, more than 12 years before cleaners eventually found her remains behind a wall in the basement of a complex on Alderley Avenue in Alderley, on December 7, 2022.

“I’ve never come across anything like that,” Detective Inspector John Mison said today.

“She was located in a busy city, approximately five kilometres from the centre of the city and she’d been there for 12 or so years, so that in itself is quite remarkable.

“The death of Tanya is a tragedy and I know my team didn’t need any motivation to work forward and get those answers for the family.”

Glover had fallen out of contact with her parents, who learned of her death after police contacted them, having used DNA and genealogical data to identify her remains.

She had visual and hearing impairments and lived in affordable housing in Fortitude Valley, near Brisbane’s CBD.

Her alleged murderer lived in the same building.

“They were living at a location in the same complex, probably not living together,” Mison said.

“That relationship was one based on friendship.”

Glover was not previously known to police, had mostly led a quiet lifestyle and kept to herself.

It is not known what link either woman had to the building where Glover’s remains were found.

Police yesterday flew to Townsville to arrest a 61-year-old from Wulgaru.

She has been charged with murder, misconduct with a corpse and fraud.

Mison would not be drawn on how Glover was killed or the circumstances of the fraud charge.

He urged anyone with information about Glover’s death who had not already spoken to police to come forward.
