Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who became the first Jewish person to serve as Majority Leader under the Biden administration, recently commended al-Ahmed for his courageous actions during a terror attack at Bondi Beach last month.
Originally from Syria, al-Ahmed gained widespread acclaim after a video of him tackling and disarming the attacker went viral.
“Thank you for your bravery,” Schumer stated, emphasizing the significance of al-Ahmed’s actions in fostering unity.
Expressing his gratitude, Ahmed took to social media to describe meeting former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd as “a great honor.”
Ahmed described the opportunity to meet Rudd as “a great honour” on social media.
During the exchange, the two spoke about Ahmed’s recovery and the moment he wrestled the gunman.
“The best country in the world, I’m an Aussie and I put my blood to my country,” Ahmed told Rudd.
Rudd told Ahmed he did an “extraordinary thing” and Australia loves him for it.
“Your image went out across the world,” Rudd said.
“We love you, you’re a good bloke.”
