A young nurse has been left with a broken nose after being allegedly assaulted in a racial attack at a gym in Geelong.

In a troubling incident that highlights ongoing issues of racism and violence, 22-year-old Harman Preet Singh recounted a distressing confrontation with three men outside his gym in Corio. The encounter occurred last night following what should have been a routine workout session.

Singh explained that the ordeal began inside the gym, where the men initiated harassment during his training. As soon as he stepped outside after finishing his exercise routine, he found the trio waiting for him, seemingly intent on escalating their aggression.

A harrowing video captured during the incident shows one of the men hurling insults at Singh, derogatorily labeling him as an “Indian dog” along with a barrage of expletives. The situation quickly turned physical when Singh was allegedly attacked, suffering a headbutt from one of the aggressors.

Recalling the assault, Singh described the shocking moment: “He got really close to my face, pulled back, and then struck his head against my nose. Blood started flowing immediately,” he recounted, the distress evident in his voice.

He said the harassment began while he was still training, and that the trio were waiting outside for him when he had finished his workout. (Nine)

Such incidents are a stark reminder of the challenges faced by many in ensuring their safety and dignity remain intact. “Nobody wants to hear it,” Singh added, emphasizing the painful reality of facing racial abuse and violence.

“Especially when you’re just minding your own business.

“Anyone would be hurt. I’m still traumatised.”

The alleged offenders left in a grey sedan and Singh spent the night in hospital.

He said it was not the first time he had been the target of racial abuse, and it has started to have a big impact on him mentally.

“I try to keep myself strong, not care about such things, but it hurts,” he said.

“I don’t know if I’m going to go back to [the] gym or if I’m going to change my hours … I’m not going to feel safe after this.”
