An employee of the National Disability Insurance Agency is facing charges following accusations of defrauding the NDIS by submitting suspicious claims amounting to $5 million.

The Darwin man, aged 47, is accused of referring vulnerable members of the community to an NDIS provider business he co-owned.

Authorities have revealed that since 2019, this business has filed for over $28 million in funds through the NDIS, with approximately $5 million of those claims now under scrutiny for potential fraud.

On the previous day, the Australian Federal Police executed search warrants at several locations in the Darwin area, including a residence in Lee Point and businesses in Durack and Yarrawonga.

During the raid, officials confiscated various documents and electronic devices, such as laptops, which are now subject to further investigation.

The individual, a 47-year-old man, faces multiple charges, including fraud and misconduct in a public office.

The investigation is ongoing.
