A grandfather who fell off a cliff and clung to a tree branch for two hours while help arrived has lived to tell the tale.
When he bent down to pick it up, he lost his balance and tumbled 20 metres down the cliff.
“If I didn’t have that with me I wouldn’t be here, that’s for sure,” Herrmuth said.
“No one would have found me on the bottom of the ledge.”
Herrmuth clung to the branch for two hours as he waited for emergency services to arrive.
He said one wrong move and he could have fallen a further 20 metres.

“It was getting pretty hairy, I was getting close to letting go,” he said.
But the grandfather held on and help arrived.
An army of emergency service workers banded together to winch him to safety before he was flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Herrmuth is expected to be discharged on Saturday.
He said while he is feeling fit, he will give it a couple of weeks before he embarks on another bushwalk.
