The US president claimed Bondi’s lack of action in pursuing criminal charges against the likes of Senator Adam Schiff, former FBI boss James Comey and New York Attorney Leticia James is “killing our reputation and credibility”.
In a message posted to Truth Social directed at his highest-ranking prosecutor, Trump said “nothing is being done” and urged Bondi to bring charges against some of his top adversaries.
Trump said he has reviewed over 30 statements and posts complaining about Bondi’s supposed inaction.
“They’re all guilty as hell, but nothing is going to be done,” he wrote.
“They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED.”
In a follow-up post, Trump softened slightly and described Bondi as a “very careful, very smart” prosecutor but said he needed someone tougher to take on his rivals.
Trump recommended his former personal attorney Lindsey Halligan, who now serves as a White House aide, as someone who could accomplish this task.
“I will be nominating Lindsey Halligan to be the United States Attorney in this very important part of our Great Country,” he added.
“She will be Fair, Smart, and will provide, desperately needed, JUSTICE FOR ALL!”
He later announced Halligan’s appointment as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Trump in July used his platform to defend Bondi against criticism for refusing to make sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged client list public.
Bondi has not responded publicly to Trump’s remarks.
Senator Schiff took to X to after Trump name-checked him in his Bondi spray and said it was a display of “political retaliation and weaponisation”.
